BigPond Broadband Satellite coverage is virtually as big as the sky.
In fact, if
you can see the sky from your place, you can almost certainly enjoy BigPond
Broadband via satellite. The only consideration is really your type of Geographic
Location and your building's Site Category.

If you are in a rented premises, or one governed by a Body Corporate, you will
need written approval from your landlord or the Body Corporate before we can
install the Satellite equipment.
You should
also check with your local council, in case you need to submit a Development
Application to install a satellite antenna.

The Self Installation Support Charge only applies if you chose Self
Installation, and then need technical support. (Please see below.)
If you
choose Professional Installation, we will contact you to confirm your location
and site categories before proceeding.
If you choose a 1-Way Satellite Plan, you will have the option of
Self-Installation or Professional Installation. (All 2-Way equipment is
professionally installed.)
We strongly
recommend the Professional Installation, mostly because aligning the satellite
dish correctly requires a degree of technical expertise.
If you do
choose to Self Install but find you require our help, you may need technical
assistance or a callout for Professional Installation.
If you call
the Help Desk more than three times or for a total time of more than three
hours, you will be considered in need of a Professional Installation. In that
case, the $108.90 support charge will stand in addition to the new Professional
Installation cost.
There are three satellite dish sizes available – 65cm, 85cm and 1.2m.
For all city
and most rural users, a 65cm dish will be fine. Signal can be affected by heavy
rainfall though, so you may need a larger dish if you live in an area that
experiences heavy downpours.
We will
determine the equipment that you need to enjoy BigPond Broadband Satellite
service at your place, and confirm the dish size when arranging a time for
delivery and installation.
You can
choose to have a larger dish than we recommend, however you will need to pay an
additional cost for purchase and installation of the larger dish. The cost can
be quoted when we arrange your appointment.
A one-off
hardware charge will also apply for your chosen BigPond Broadband Satellite
Plan. The charge is:
The
hardware includes Satellite indoor unit, dish, mount and cabling.
You are welcome to connect your BigPond Broadband Satellite service to a Server
or LAN to provide web access to multiple users on your site – with the
exception of the two 1-Way Residential Only Plans (Liberty Sat and Giga Sat).
Connectivity is your responsibility, as the Telstra BigPond Broadband Help Desk
can only provide support for connection to a single computer.
All BigPond Broadband Satellite Plans and Packages are for a term of 18 months.
If you
cancel your contract before the end of the 18 months, the cancellation fee will
be pro-rated for the amount of the contract term left to run.
Our base
cancellation fees are:
So if you
cancel an 1-Way contract when it has 12 months to run, for example, you will be
charged $495 x 12/18 = $330.
The
one-off hardware charge is a subsidised figure, and the equipment will only
become your property at the end of your 18-month contract (or on payment of the
cancellation fee after an early termination).
1. All Satellite Plans
and Packages are for a term of 18 months.
2. You can switch
between plans at any time during the contract term. If you have a 1-Way
Satellite service and want to swap to 2-Way, you will receive a $100 discount
off your 2-Way Installation charge, and no cancellation fee will apply from
your 1-Way plan if it still has time to run, so long as your 1-Way equipment is
returned in good working order. (The equipment will be collected by the
technician installing your 2-Way equipment.)
3. Monthly Usage means
your total data transfers (metered downloads and uploads) for each calendar
month. 1 Gigabyte (GB) is 1,000 Megabytes (MB). Unused Monthly Usage does not
roll over into the following month and is thus forfeited.
4. Actual speeds will
vary depending on Internet traffic, site server capacity and other factors.
5. Travel costs are not
included. These will be confirmed before installation.
6. Usual
telecommunication charges apply to dial-up to the Internet.
